Water management

How this Dutch company uses IoT to monitor the Dutch groundwater level

Noise nuisance from aso bins, illegal fireworks that cause a lot of nuisance and a Dutch landscape that has to endure more and more droughts and heavy rain showers. These are problems for which we as a society are only too happy to see a solution. In order to do that, mapping and monitoring the problem is a first step. Because measuring is knowing. But how do you do that? Munisense from Leiden has found an innovative solution for this.

With thousands of groundwater level measuring points in more than 100 Dutch municipalities, provinces and water boards, Munisense plays a leading role when it comes to groundwater measurements in the Netherlands. In many cases, these measurement points are located a long way underground, making it often impossible to use the normal infrastructure, such as power supply or a fixed internet connection. With the help of IoT unlimited, a Dutch IoT provider, Munisense developed a solution that made it possible to measure the groundwater level in remote places and to serve that data to its customers via the cloud in a digital platform.

Seemingly impossible circumstances

In the video below, Hans Mulder, founder and director of Munisense, and Floris van Amerongen, founder and director of IoT unlimited, show how IoT enables them to accurately measure the groundwater level of our Dutch landscape in seemingly impossible circumstances.

In the video, Mulder says that T-Mobile’s LTE-M has been key in finding the right IoT solution for his company. “We were looking for the best coverage and future-proof technology,” says Mulder. “And for the implementation of this we ended up with IoT unlimited, because of fast implementation, short lines and flexibility.”

“T-Mobile and IoT unlimited work very closely together to help customers with specific wishes and requirements to meet their mobile connectivity needs for their IoT solution,” says Floris van Amerongen in the video. “Thanks to our joint solution, MuniSense has an accessible solution that meets the qualitative, future-oriented and security requirements it sets for a communication solution for the safe measurement of the groundwater level.”

LTE-M increases the lifetime of your IoT devices and extends your IoT business case

50-75% battery life improvement through the use of this innovative technology.

Rapid implementation of the solution is decisive for choosing IoT unlimited

Delivery of a fully secure solution was a matter of days, not weeks or longer.
